DSV adds to US offices

DSV Air & Sea has opened an office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – its 36th office in the USA.

Located near Pittsburgh International Airport, the office will offer air and sea freight services, Customs clearance and DSV’s cargo insurance products.

DSV’s US operations also recently expanded to include out-of-gauge (OOG) rail services.

“Along with OOG rail, we provide first and last mile trucking services to and from rail spurs, including engineered drawings, loading/unloading, and tying down of cargo according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR) rules and regulations,” added DSV.

One of the first shipments transported using the OOG rail services was an industrial drier used in food manufacturing. The unit weighed 222,673 lbs (101 tonnes) and measured 48 ft x 10 ft x 13 ft (14.6 m x 3 m x 4 m).

The drier had to be shipped from Denmark and required DSV’s Danish projects team and its road team in Houston to collaborate for the project. Upon arrival in the USA, the unit was delivered to its final destination in Colorado by rail.
