March 26 - Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) saw strong growth in February 2013 with 2.27 million tons (2.08 million tonnes) of freight handled at its gateways - a year-on-year improvement of 6.9 percent over February 2012.

GPA saw a surge in auto/machinery units moved through Colonel's Island Terminal at the Port of Brunswick. In total, 50,622 units passed through the port in February 2013, a 30.4 percent improvement in comparison to February 2012.
 
The Brunswick gateway also saw bulk cargo grow by 282 percent year-on-year in February 2013 to 124,028 tons (112,516 tonnes). For its FY2013, total bulk tonnage at the port has surpassed 800,500 tons  (726,201 tonnes) - a year-over-year improvement of 550 percent.
 
The Port of Savannah saw cargo growth of 2.3 percent year-on-year in February 2013 to a total of just over 2 million tons (1.81 million tonnes).
