Hapag-Lloyd has expanded its Pacific South Loop 8 service (PS8) with the addition of Prince Rupert to its Canadian network.

Uffe Ostergaard, president of Hapag-Lloyd America, said: "With the decision to incorporate Prince Rupert into our network we strengthen and further expand our position in Canada.

"Prince Rupert is the closest major North American port to Asia with direct access to CN Railway's (CN) Class 1 continental rail network. In this way, we can offer our customers additional options for their transports. We expect that the port call will develop well and offer our customers a genuine alternative."

The PS8 service is operated on behalf of THE Alliance, which comprises Hapag-Lloyd, "K" Line, Mitsui O.S.K Lines, NYK and Yang Ming.

In addition to Prince Rupert, the service calls at the Chinese ports of Xingang, Qingdao, Shanghai; Busan and Gwangyang in South Korea; and Los Angeles and Tacoma, USA.
