June 5 - Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has utilised its floating cranes to move a 126-tonne rotary cooker from a container ship to an inland vessel at the HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT) in Germany.

The machine, which measured 24 m in length and had a diameter of 4.4 m, arrived from Shanghai on board Cosco Shipping's CSCL Jupiter.

The containers above the cargo hold where the package was stored were discharged the night before, allowing both of HHLA's floating cranes to operate in tandem and lift the rotary cooker, before lowering it onto an awaiting inland vessel.

According to Thomas Lütje, sales director at HHLA, the transhipment is an example of the terminal's flexibility, commenting: "Our facilities are not just highly efficient specialists when it comes to container handling, we also offer impressive solutions for the transhipment of heavy goods."

The Chinese-manufactured rotary cooker, which is often used in the food industry to process grains or oilseeds, will be transported via the river Elbe to Melnik in the Czech Republic where it will continue on land to its final destination in Olomouc.
