September 29 - Today, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) is scheduled to be signed by the Port of Houston Authority and the Port of Antwerp in conjunction with the start of the 2014 Breakbulk Americas conference and exhibition.
As the largest breakbulk port in the USA and Europe, the ports also are significant economic engines for their respective regions.
Under terms of the memorandum, the ports will exchange information ranging from Customs to business development and each will commit to hosting a commercial event in alternating years.
This week both ports will be in Houston where the Port of Houston Authority is the host for the Breakbulk Americas conference and exhibition, which is being held at the George R. Brown Convention Center. HLPFI's Peter Edwards, Luke King and Ian Matheson are looking forward to seeing friends old and new at the event.
The Port of Houston Authority's ability to handle the largest, most challenging cargoes is also expanding, with the acquisition of a new crane at the Turning Basin Terminal that can handle up to 800 tonnes. In place at Dock 32, the crane will be deployed by Barnhart and will be available for rent to perform heavy lifts.
