May 11 - Belgium's Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering (DEME) has formed a joint venture with China's Cosco Shipping to develop offshore wind energy in the Asian nation.

The COSCOCS-DEME cooperation is in line with China's plans to develop its generating capacity from offshore wind significantly by 2020.

DEME subsidiary GeoSea, which has extensive experience in developing, building and maintaining offshore wind farms, will work together with Cosco, which has expressed its desire to enter this new market segment.

Alain Bernard, director and ceo of DEME, said: "Thanks to the accumulated know-how and experience with complex infrastructure projects at sea, DEME can support and carry out China Cosco Shipping's offshore wind vision."
