February 2 - Hagen, Germany-based project cargo forwarder, Riedl Group has handled the significant movement of a major item of generating equipment, utilising equipment constructed by one of the group's subsidiary companies.

The lift out operation of a generator stator measuring 13.5 m x 4.5 m x 4.5 m and weighing 450 tonnes, from a nuclear power plant at Kärlich, Germany was undertaken using a LHS 600 strand jack lifting system designed and built by the engineering team of Riedl & Tschierschke, a Riedl group company.

The LHS 600 is designed to be loaded and shipped in 20 ft and 40 ft containers and can thereby be mobilised worldwide.

The lifting, swivel and handling transport frame was constructed in the company's workship at Karben, Germany.

Other equipment handled by Riedl for this project included turbine rotors weighing around 240 tonnes. Design and construction of the transport frames for this equipment was also undertaken by Riedl & Tschierschke.

Later this year, the generator stator and other very heavy equipment from the nuclear power station, which has never been connected to the electric supply network, will be shipped overseas for integration into a power station currently under design.
