LaRue will represent the Texas Ports

July 4 - The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) selected executive director, John P. LaRue, Port Corpus Christi (POCCA), to represent the Texas ports in the newly formed Panama Canal Stakeholder Working Group, writes Adam Flensborg Safikhany.

LaRue joins representatives from other organisations in the transportation field interested in the expansion of the Panama Canal. The group will provide TxDOT with promotion of port activities related to the state transportation planning to better handle the foreseen increase of cargo (especially exports) through the Texas Ports, rail and highways.

By the end of the year, the Panama Canal Stakeholder Working Group led by Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, former state representative and former member of the Interstate Commerce Commission, will provide a report of the state's readiness to handle the possible surge of cargo movement related to the expansion of the Canal.

POCCA's executive director will join representatives from other sectors such as maritime, trucking, rail, government, agriculture, manufacturing, and oil and gas industries. " Port Corpus Christi is one of the Texas ports with projects underway to position itself for the opportunities the expansion of the Panama Canal will bring to South Texas." LaRue.
