Liebherr has delivered its first LHM 420 mobile harbour crane fitted with the new exhaust gas cleaning system to comply with the EU Stage V emissions standard at the port of Passau, Germany.

Liebherr delivered the unit to German port operator bayernhafen Passau at the end of 2018.

The EU Stage V exhaust emissions legislation came into force this year; manufacturers have a transition phase of up to three years to ensure their products comply. Liebherr said its mobile harbour cranes “are equipped as standard with the new exhaust gas cleaning system if required in the respective country of destination”.

The LHM 420, which can lift up to 124 tonnes, is part of bayernhafen’s infrastructure expansion at the trimodal port, which has also seen investment in its railway.

Capable of handling items such as bulk goods, general cargo or containers, the LHM 420 at Passau will also help to move complete wind turbines.
