With a maximum outreach of 54 m, Liebherr said the unit will be the strongest mobile harbour crane in Norway and will be mainly used for container handling.

With new container and ro-ro terminals scheduled to open in January 2019, Karmsund port, located in Haugesund, is preparing for an increased freight volume, said Liebherr, adding that the terminals will be an important logistics hub for western Norway.

“The new crane will become a prominent landmark in the region,” according to Tore Gautesen, port director at Karmsund. “The most important parameters for our decision in favour of Liebherr were capacity, technical structure, manoeuvrability and an overall assessment of technology and environmental compatibility.”

The crane will be able to operate across entire dock area and is equipped for handling containers, bulk cargo and project loads.
