August 17 - The Chinese shipbuilding group Yangfan has contracted MacGregor, part of Cargotec, to supply ro-ro access equipment packages to five car carriers being built for Grimaldi.

Each MacGregor package will comprise a quarter ramp, side ramp, internal ramps, bulkhead doors and four levels of liftable car decks, with a total weight of about 2,400 tonnes per ship.

The 200 m long vessels, a series of post-Panamax 7,800 ceu pure car/truck carriers (PCTCs), are part of Italian operator Grimaldi Group's fleet modernisation and expansion programme.

Expected to enter into service by 2017, the carriers will be among the world's largest.  They will be operational in Grimaldi's regular service linking the Mediterranean and North America, specifically dedicated to transportation of new European vehicles for US and Canadian markets.
