August 12 - Iqaluit, Canada headquartered shipping line NEAS has taken delivery of its newest multipurpose vessel - Mitiq - which will be deployed on services to Canada's isolated Arctic communities.

Mitiq was built in 1995 and has a capacity of 730 teu. The vessel measures 137 m long, is ice class 1 certified, and has three onboard 60-tonne lifting capacity cranes.

She embarked on her maiden Arctic voyage during July loaded with essential resupply cargoes, calling at Nunavik and Nunavut in northeastern Canada, as well as Kangiqsujuaq, Iqaluit and Baker Lake.

"MV Mitiq is another example of NEAS's active contribution to the sustainable social and economic development of Nunavik and Nunavut," said Michael Gordon, chairman of NEAS.
