May 15 - Portland, Oregon based heavy haul specialist Omega Morgan has shifted a 152.4 tonne transformer on 227 km route through Colorado to the Excel Energy substation in Poncha Springs.
The transformer was moved on Omega Morgan's high-frame dual-lane trailer 'Sweet Pea'. One pull-truck and three push-trucks were required to move the trailer along the route. The entire convoy weighed 395 tonnes and measured almost 113 m.
According to project manager Pete Uhler, the toughest challenge was moving the shipment up the 2,957 m Wolf Creek pass, before cautiously negotiating the 6 degree downward gradient along other side.
