Sohar launches online route planner

Sohar Port and Freezone has launched an online route planner that provides information on available connections to hinterland destinations.

Sohar Navigate is the first platform of its kind in the Middle East, said the port, and will include sea schedules connecting to 550 ports around the world.

The system offers users a choice of routes between the point of departure and final destination and includes analysis tools, as well as a business directory and information regarding the carbon footprint of any container transport.

Mark Geilenkirchen, ceo of Sohar Port and Freezone, said: “The Navigate platform was initially launched by our partner, the port of Rotterdam.

“Capitalising on this technology, we have modified Sohar Navigate to suit our regional and global stakeholders and provide them with outreach, as well as a user-friendly means to locate the most efficient and optimal routes for their activities,” he added.

Anacin Kum, ceo of Hutchison Ports Sohar, said the tool was developed especially for companies seeking smarter ways to plan their container transports.

“With the addition of more operational data, Sohar Navigate will become an increasingly valuable resource to improve efficiency within the supply chain,” Kum considered. “It will also provide visible and convenient options for local importer and exporter groups, who generally rely on logistic providers.”
