October 13 - Collett & Sons has handled over 324 wind turbine components from its purpose built Grangemouth depot on behalf of Forth Ports.

In autumn 2013, Forth Ports announced a 2-year partnership with Collett & Sons Ltd to oversee the shipping, project management and heavy transport of wind turbine components from its Grangemouth facility.

Comprising of 36 complete turbines in total, Collett has delivered components throughout Scotland. The largest blade carried measured 57.2 m in length.

The Grangemouth depot now features a 110-tonne gantry crane along with other specialist heavy-duty handling equipment, creating a central hub in Scotland for importing wind turbine components, says Collett & Sons.

David Collett, managing director for Collett & Sons, commented: "We are very pleased with the progress made so far with the advent of this new facility. The joint effort of both our employees and Forth Ports have presented Grangemouth as a truly credible solution for the wind energy and heavy lift markets. Furthermore our record has strengthened our credibility and working relationships in Scotland."
