Rhenus moves MAN engines

Rhenus Project Logistics is coordinating the transport of 13 MAN diesel engines from Cuxhaven, Germany to Turkey, where they will be used as part of a floating power station.

The first part of the project began in April 2019 when Rhenus moved the MAN 18V51/60 TS diesel engines, which measure 15 m x 5 m x 7 m, from their production site in Saint-Nazaire, France to Cuxhaven for temporary storage.

“Until we were able to ship the first engines to their place of deployment, they were initially stored at the Cuxport terminal in a building with sufficient ceiling height so that they were protected from any moisture,” said Marcus Janowsky, project manager at Rhenus Project Logistics.

The first six 325-tonne power generators have since been transported to Tuzla, Turkey onboard the heavy lift vessel BBC Lagos.

All 13 of the MAN engines will be used by Turkish energy supplier Karpowership. The company utilises decommissioned bulk carriers, heavy lift ships and inland waterway vessels to develop floating power stations.
