March 15 - Royal Cargo has coordinated the transport of heavy and oversize equipment for the 165 MW coal-fired Balingasag power plant in Misamis Oriental, the Philippines.

The consignment included two huge ship unloaders, weighing 565 tonnes each and measuring 22.5 m x 18.5 m x 59.58 m, which were shipped to the Balingasag jetty from Zhangjiang in China.

Royal Cargo handled unloading operations at the jetty, and offloaded the heavy units to the quayside rails using a crane barge.

The company also received 165-tonne steam turbines and 120-tonne generators at the Port of Cagayan de Oro, which it transported and installed at the plant site.

Rodrigo de Roma, vice president for projects and heavy lift at Royal Cargo, explained that the sea transportation and handling of these abnormal loads was very challenging, especially since the equipment was so vital to the completion of the power plant project.

Royal Cargo is a member of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) in the Philippines.
