G2 increases San Diego services

G2 Ocean, the joint venture of Grieg Star and Gearbulk, has increased its sailings to the port of San Diego.

According to the port of San Diego, G2 Ocean has signed a three-year agreement with the port that would see the carrier establish a regular liner service calling at its Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal.

The 96-acre (38.8 ha) terminal features eight berths with a depth of 42 ft (12.8 m).

G2 Ocean, which has previously offered sailings to San Diego four to five times a year, will now call at the port 12 annually. “That means more flexibility for our customers in Northern Europe and California,” says G2 Ocean. “It also opens up for new opportunities, and shows our lasting commitment to this important trade route.”

The port expects the service to handle a wide variety of cargoes, including steel products for shipbuilding, appliances and construction projects; as well as project cargo such as transformers and yachts.

G2 Ocean operates a fleet of 130 open hatch vessels, which it says are tailor-made for breakbulk and project cargoes.
