Hapag-Lloyd restructures management

Hapag-Lloyd has appointed Joachim Schlotfeldt as a member of the executive board and announced that Thorsten Haeser, chief commercial officer, will step down from his role.

Schlotfeld has been a member of the executive committee since 2007 and most recently held the position of managing director of Asia and Europe.

Effective April 1, 2018, Schlotfeldt will be responsible for human resources, which is currently the responsibility of the ceo, as the company's labour director. He will also be responsible for global procurement, currently the responsibility of the chief commercial officer.

Rolf Habben Jansen, ceo, will now be responsible for global sales activities.

Effective March 31, 2018, Thorsten Haeser, chief commercial officer, will step down from his role at the Hamburg-based container shipping line.

According to Hapag-Lloyd, the restructuring of the executive board will make it easier to meet the challenges arising from its increasing size. Following the mergers with the container shipping activities of CSAV in 2014 and UASC in 2017, the transport capacities and number of containers transported at Hapag-Lloyd have more than doubled. Revenue rose by around 50 percent in the same period, and the number of employees increased by approximately 70 percent.
