Multipurpose rates continue to rise

The multipurpose shipping sector has seen a further rise in time charter rates over the last month, according to the latest data from shipbroker Toepfer Transport.

The findings, published in the company's latest multipurpose time charter index (TMI), shows that the average daily time charter rate for a 12,500 dwt / F-type heavy lift vessel increased by a further USD27 over the course of March to reach USD6,956 - almost USD939 up on the rate of USD6,017 recorded by the index in March 2017.

Toepfer's monthly TMI index which is based on six to 12-month time charter rates and is compiled using data obtained from operators, owners and brokers.
