January 3 - Mississippi-headquartered Signet Maritime Corporation has completed the construction of a new heavy deck barge at its Shipbuilding & Repair division. The barge, designed by Farrell and Norton Naval Architects, has been named 'SIGNET 141'.

SIGNET 141 will provide capacity for customers in the growing Port of Pascagoula, where it will be based for charter throughout ports in the US Gulf.

The new barge has overall dimensions of 43.6 m x 12.2 m x 2.75 m, 800 tonnes payload and deck strength of 2,000lbs/sq ft (9.76 tonnes/sq m).

SIGNET 141 was christened on December 20, 2012 and according to J Barry Snyder, president, Signet: "We are pleased to have committed this contract to our shipyard facility in Pascagoula and they have once again proven their reliability and quality construction practices in building superior marine vessels."
