April 21 - The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) reported strong container volumes for March 2017, but breakbulk cargo traffic was down.

Breakbulk cargo fell by 16 percent year-on-year in March to 38,114 tonnes, due to soft market conditions.

Total container volumes for March 2017 increased by 14 percent; imports grew 26 percent to 120,018 teu, while exports increased almost 26 percent to 99,603 teu. The first quarter 2017 container volumes hit their highest level since 2005. Q1 imports reached 251,607 teu; exports increased 6 percent to 247,186 teu.
