November 22 - The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) has called for full master contract wage scale meetings with the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) beginning on December 10, 2012.

The ILA has scheduled three full days of meetings and says these will continue beyond that time if a new contract can be reached.

Due to the potential risk of significantly increased port congestion in the event of a strike by ILA members, global transport and logistics supplier DSV Air & Sea said it will institute a congestion surcharge as of December 5, 2012.

Should a strike occur the charges will apply to all exports and imports for all cargo moving from/to and via North America ports. If no strike takes place, the tariff filing will be voided.
