May 6 - Spanish freight forwarding group Transitex has established a new division in Genoa - Transitex Italia - specialising in project cargo and reefer logistics.

Tiago Martins, country manager at Transitex Italia, explained: "We are a freight forwarder whose core business primarily focuses on fruit and project cargo trades. As a matter of fact Transitex has historically been one of the major reefer players on the lines connecting Spain and Portugal to Brazil and South America. The project cargo segment ensued from Transitex's widespread presence in Mozambique where ENI Group is progressively increasing its investments in the oil industry."

ENI Group is an Italian energy major with a strong foothold on the African continent.

Transitex attributes its specialisation in project logistics to its majority shareholder, Tetir Mota-Engil Group - one of Europe's top-30 engineering and construction companies. 80 percent of Tetir Mota-Engil Group's revenue is generated in the African and South American markets, said Transitex.

Martins indicated that investments in sub-Saharan Africa are intensifying, mainly by Italian companies. Moreover, he said, ENI is actively engaged in Mozambique and currently partnering with small Italian suppliers which is stimulating deliveries from Italy. "That is why we intend to specialise in the project cargo niche from Italy to Africa," he said.
