February 13 - United European Car Carriers (UECC) has held a naming ceremony for its second dual-fuel LNG Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) with 1A Super Finnish/Swedish ice class.

As HLPFI reported in March 2014, UECC signed a contract with Kawasaki Heavy Industries for two dual-fuel LNG PCTCs to be constructed at the shipbuilder's joint venture NACKS shipyard in Nantong, China.  Auto Energy was delivered to UECC in November last year.

Representatives of UECC's owners, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Wallenius Lines, as well as UECC's customers and partners gathered to attend the formal naming ceremony of the vessel in the Port of Malmö, Sweden.

Glenn Edvardsen, ceo of UECC, said: "As active members of society, We all have a shared obligation to do our part of creating a greener, more sustainable world."

Auto Energy is the sister ship of Auto Eco, which was delivered in September 2016 and subsequently named in November 2016.

Edvardsen added that the two ships are the first PCTC of their kind to be fitted with a dual-fuel LNG propulsion system, which he claims allows the vessels to complete a fourteen-day round trip voyage solely on LNG without refuelling. Auto Energy and Auto Eco not only meet existing emissions regulations but also exceeds them, allowing them to trade in any Environment Control Area, worldwide.
