January 28 - A giant boiler, manufactured by Simic in Italy, has been loaded on board a ro-ro vessel at the Port of Venice for shipment to Iran.

The boiler, which is destined for a methanol plant in the south of Iran, was first transported from Simic's manufacturing facility in Marghera to the Port of Venice's Centro Intermodale Adriatico (CIA) terminal by Italian heavy haulier CTS Trasporti.

In order to load the consignment, which weighed over 1,350 tonnes in total and measured 19 m high, onto the ro-ro deck cargo vessel Heng Tong 77 at the CIA terminal, CTS Trasporti was required to obtain RINA certification.

"Not just the transport of the oversize cargo, but also the loading - which was performed horizontally - and the maintenance of the ship's trim and balance were the most difficult part of the entire operation," explained Paolo Zangrando of CTS Trasporti.

Once the cargo was loaded on board the vessel, under the agency of Medimar, the ship was taken to the port's Transped terminal, where all the lashing operations were performed, before Heng Tong 77 set sail for Iran.
