November 7 - Switzerland headquartered forwarder Via Mat Transport & Logistics is currently engaged with multi-origin project cargo shipments for a copper mine operator in Zambia.

Dominik Keller, head air / sea general cargo global, Via Mat Transport & Logistics, explained that over-dimensional cargoes for the mining project have been exported from Aviles in Spain, the Autoport terminal in Izmit, Turkey, and Hamburg, Germany to Richards Bay on the East Coast of South Africa. The project commenced just over one year ago and is ongoing. The cargoes have been moving on dedicated breakbulk vessels, while some pieces have been handled on normal container ships. Some of the more time-sensitive units have been forwarded by air.

Keller explained that the main challenge was organising suitable vessels to ship the project cargoes, particularly from Turkey, to avoid any necessary vessel detention charges.
