August 21 - “Women in command” is among the topics that Women's International Shipping & Trading Association UK (WISTA-UK) will be exploring at their event on September 7, the opening day of this year's London International Shipping Week (LISW).

The event, part of a series of seminars that will be open to the public, will be held in conjunction with the UK Trade & Investment department (UKTI).

WISTA-UK states that with the estimated figure of female seagoing staff at only 4%, we are wasting a potential resource, one that could be used to respond to the worldwide shortage of qualified crews.

"LISW will once again give us the opportunity to show not only how important women are in shipping, but also why the UK remains at the forefront of maritime technology," said Sue Terpilowski OBE, president of WISTA-UK.
