The initial phase involves the installation of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) export cable, with Prysmian, the Italian cable manufacturer, overseeing this critical component. This project demands an investment exceeding GBP3 billion (USD3.9 billion). The wind park will feature an array of 100 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW offshore wind turbines. Upon its successful completion, this initiative will stand as RWE's largest offshore wind park to date, capable of supplying power to approximately 1.2 million British households. Currently, RWE operates ten offshore wind parks in the UK, aggregating an impressive installed capacity of nearly 4 GW. As of April 2025, the first turbine has been installed at the Sofia offshore wind project.
First power from the project is expected by the end of 2025, and full commissioning is scheduled in 2026. The UK aims to reach 50 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030, of which 5 GW would be floating offshore wind
Scheduled Completion Date: 2026
