May 8 - The International Association of Ports and Habors (IAPH) has appointed Patrick Verhoeven as the IAPH managing director - policy and strategy.

According to the IAPH, the role is expected to create a new opportunity for the IAPH to enhance its scope and become a more dynamic organisation with a stronger voice within the global ports industry.

Verhoeven has more than twenty years of experience in leading international port and shipping organisations, including secretary general of the Federation of European Private Port Operators (FEPORT); secretary general of European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) and secretary general of European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA).

Verhoeven will assume responsibilities on September 1, 2017.
