March 31 - According to Uniport Bilbao, SDW Shipping has begun a new monthly service linking the Spanish port with Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Bolivia.

The service, which carries general cargo, ro-ro, heavy lift and oversize project cargo, deploys two multipurpose vessels and calls at Uddevalla (Sweden), Vlissingen (The Netherlands) and Bilbao, before heading to Callao (Peru), Iquique and Arica (Chile).

In addition, the service offers inducement calls at Buenaventura (Colombia) and Valparaíso (Chile), as well as other ports.

Uniport Bilbao also noted that Vasco Shipping Services (as representative of Cosco Shipping) has begun a weekly service from Bilbao to the ports of Alger (Algeria), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) and Jebel Ali (UAE).

The Spanish port also saw NordikMaritime celebrate its 45th call at Bilbao, with the arrival of the multipurpose ship Karion.

Bergé Marítima Bilbao has reinforced its operating capacity with the acquisition of a new 140-tonne capacity mobile harbour crane, which will be used for the handling of heavy project cargoes.

Meanwhile, Toro y Betolaza has received the last six of 12 Mafi trailers, which are used to load project cargoes onto ro-ro vessels in Bilbao. Toro y Betolaza adds the new trailers to its 104-tonne capacity mobile harbour crane, which became operational in January.

Bilbao port has also witnessed Asta Logistik coordinate the shipment of project cargo to South Africa for Volkswagen Uitenhage. The consignment comprised of ten parts, weighing 480 tonnes in total.
