March 20 - Lufthansa Cargo achieved an operating profit of EUR100 million (USD106 million) in 2014, which represents a significant increase for the airline when compared with 2013's EUR79 million (USD84 million).

"We achieved a good result in challenging conditions," said Lufthansa Cargo ceo Peter Gerber.

The airline continues to systematically implement its Lufthansa Cargo 202 future programme, and expects to increase profits further in 2015.

Despite growth rates being slightly lower in 2014 than in the past, Gerber was confident that air freight will always be the only viable transport option for certain goods.
