The 2 MW floating wind platform for the DemoSATH pilot project in Spain has been installed.

The DemoSATH platform installed in the open sea.

The operation, carried out by the Windstaller Alliance, saw the anchor handling vessel Normand Sapphire and local tugboats tow the DemoSATH platform from the construction site in the port of Bilbao to the BiMEP test site.

Once at the 85 m-deep site, the hook-up operation involved connecting the six pre-laid mooring lines to the structure’s single-point mooring turret.

During the two-year operational period at the BiMEP site, the SATH technology for floating offshore wind, developed by Saitec Offshore Technologies, will be tested, and the tasks related to its operation and maintenance requirements will be analysed.

The project is being developed by Saitec, along with RWE Offshore Wind and Kansai Electric Power (KEPCO).
