Polish heavy lifting contractor MS Industry has deployed Enerpac gantries to move a large 1,100-tonne press in Germany.

The heavy-duty T Schuler industrial press was located on the factory’s first floor and had to be moved to the ground floor for transportation to another site. Ahead of the move, the press was disassembled into three elements: the crown weighing 120 tonnes, a 115-tonne slider and a 180-tonne press bed. These components then needed to be lowered 7 m through a floor opening to the ground floor.

The layout of the factory meant there was no overhead gantry available and deploying a crane was impractical given the limited space. MS Industry chose to use its Enerpac SBL1100 gantry to lower the components. However, due to limited space, the gantry’s skid tracks could not be positioned across the floor. Therefore, MS Industry’s SL400 gantry was deployed as a support.

By aligning the SL400 gantry and its respective header beams along one wall, the gantry was able to support the SBL1100 skid tracks, allowing all three press elements to be successfully lowered.

Last month, HLPFI reported that Germany’s Hess used an Enerpac SL380 hydraulic gantry to navigate tight space and height limits in a Ruhr residential area.
