December 9 - Chapman Freeborn has chartered one of Volga-Dnepr Airlines' IL-76TD-90VD freighters to transport an 18 m long Irisbus Citelis bus from Turin, Italy to Astana, Kazakhstan.
The flight to Kazakhstan was organised by Chapman Freeborn Airchartering on behalf of Iveco Torino, which needed to deliver the bus to Astana for a public parade.
In order to load the bus, which weighed 20 tonnes, safely into the 19 m cargo hold, the angle of the aircraft's extension ramp had to be reduced using special loading equipment.
Despite bad weather conditions, Chapman Freeborn managed to deliver the consignment to Astana on time.
This was the first time a vehicle of this length had been carried on board the IL-76TD-90VD, said Volga-Dnepr.
Chapman Freeborn worked closely with Iveco Torino and its freight forwarder, Ventana Serra Spa, to deliver efficient logistics solutions, said Enrico Fantini, cargo charter specialist at Chapman Freeborn Italy.
