December 21 - Russian-based Volga-Dnepr Group has started operating a brand new hanger out of Leipzig/Halle International airport.

Volga-Dnepr Technic GmbH has taken the lease - the maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) arm of the Russian carrier in Germany.

The 8,500 sq m facility can accommodate one AN-124-100, one IL-76 and one B747 simultaneously - and Volga-Dnepr hopes the new hangar will significantly reduce maintenance time.

"Leipzig/Halle has been an important location for Volga-Dnepr Technic since 2010. The addition of this new hangar facility at such an important and growing freight hub - the second largest cargo hub in Germany in terms of freight turnover - provides a long-term competitive advantage for the company," explained Ildar Iliyasov, managing director of Volga-Dnepr Technic.
