Dongbang in Iranian first

April 28 - Dongbang Transport Logistics has carried eight fabricated deck modules on one of its heavy load carriers, Dongbang Giant No. 2, from Ulsan, South Korea, to Khorramshahr in Iran.

The modules, which had a total weight of around 3,000 tonnes are intended for the FZ-A platform in the Forouzan oil field where Iran is developing an LNG project.

A spokesperson for Dongbang said that the South Korean heavy lift shipping specialist had been making advanced preparations in anticipation of a resumption of oil and gas projects in Iran following the lifting of sanctions.

It plans to become a leader in heavy lift transportation in the country as it rebuilds its economy.

The company confirmed that it is anticipating the delivery in August 2016 of another heavy load carrier, the 18,500 dwt Dongbang Giant No. 7, from China's Zhejiang Zengzhou Shipyard.

The original order for this was signed in October 2014 between Kwangyang Marine (as the owner) and Zhejiang Zengzhou Shipbuilding Co (as the shipyard).

Korean heavy machinery manufacturer, Mastek arranged this contract on behalf of the shipowner. It also arranged long term ship finance from Chinese EXIM Bank and is providing total management services including supervision of the construction at the shipyard.
