April 14 - McDermott International has christened its new derrick lay vessel at a ceremony held at the Keppel Singmarine Shipyard in Singapore.

The ship was named DLV 2000 by Brenda Cuthbertson - the wife of McDermott's Asia area vice president, Hugh Cuthbertson.

The DLV 2000 is a class III dynamically positioned vessel combining a 2,200-tonne revolving crane with a deepwater under deck S-lay pipelay system configured to install subsea pipelines. It incorporates a, 43,000 sq ft  (3,994.8 sq m) open deck for the transportation and assembly of large subsea structures.

"The DLV 2000 will add high-end capabilities and increased versatility to McDermott's global fleet by utilising a single vessel on projects requiring a combination of pipelay and heavy lift with appropriate deck space for structures and offshore workforce accommodation that would normally require multiple vessels,"  said David Dickson, McDermott's president and ceo.

The DLV 2000's first assignment is scheduled offshore Western Australia on the INPEX Ichthys LNG Project. It will join the project in May 2016 for several months providing heavy construction support for the subsea system.
