September 2 - German crane rental company Sommer Kranverleih has taken delivery of its first Grove all-terrain crane - a 400-tonne capacity, six-axle GMK6400.

Sommer Kranverleih general manager Björn Sommer said that the company had chosen to purchase the GMK6400 model due to its flexibility and compact design.

Manitowoc, which produces Grove cranes, explained that the all-terrain crane satisfies road permit laws across Europe, while its compact shape means that it can work on projects usually more suited to five-axle mobile cranes.

Sommer added that he was particularly pleased with the crane's short rigging time and strong lifting capacity from the main boom and luffing jib, especially with the MegaWingLift capacity-enhancing attachment.

The Grove crane has a 60 m main boom and 79 m luffing jib, and is popular for wind turbine assembly and maintenance work, said Manitowoc.
