Cargolux to appeal against EU price fixing fine

January 27 - Main deck cargo airline Cargolux Airlines International is to appeal against the European Union's EUR79.9 million (USD109.3 million) fine for participating in an international price fixing cartel.

In November 2010, Cargolux and 10 other airlines were fined by the European Commission for operating a cartel in airfreight. Fines amounted to EUR799.4 million in total (USD1094.4 million). At this stage, Cargolux is not making any additional comments on this matter.

The fines are for alleged collusion to set fuel and security surcharges for six years up to 2006.

Meanwhile, two senior executives at the airline, Cargolux CEO Ulrich Ogiermann and senior vice president sales and marketing Robert van de Weg, are facing separate criminal charges for participating in price fixing in the United States, where Cargolux was fined USD119 million in 2009.
