July 17 - Construction is underway on the new Emirates SkyCargo terminal at Dubai World Central Al Maktoum International airport, UAE.

The new facility will become Emirates SkyCargo's home hub for freighter operations from May 2014. it will be able to process 700,000 tonnes of freight per year with room for expansion in the future.

"The planned move of our freighter operations from Dubai International Airport to Dubai World Central Al Maktoum International Airport is the next step in Emirates SkyCargo's overall expansion and growth programme," said Nabil Sultan, Emirates divisional senior vice president, cargo.

"It provides us with a brand new facility for our freighter operations and will increase capacity and enable us to meet our long-term objectives," he added.

In addition to the cargo terminal, facilities and infrastructure will be built including 46 truck docks, 80 truck parking spaces and 12 aircraft stands.

Emirates SkyCargo is the air freight division of of Emirates Airline. It currently operates a freighter fleet of 10 - including eight B777F and two B747-400ERF aircraft.
