Kerry Logistics has acquired a majority stake in Saga Italia, strengthening its service portfolio and project logistics capabilities.

As part of Kerry Logistics' ongoing global expansion strategy, the acquisition adds Saga Italia’s specialised experience in project logistics and heavy lift services to the Hong Kong-headquartered forwarder's portfolio.

It will also add three new countries to Kerry Logistics' network – the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda and Egypt – as well as new offices in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, the UAE, Russia and the USA.

Thomas Blank, managing director of Europe at Kerry Logistics, said: "With this step, we continue to build upon our expertise in project logistics which currently spreads across China, the Philippines, Indonesia, the CIS and India.

“Saga Italia's specialised knowledge further strengthens our activities and will support us to tap into the immense business opportunities as more Belt and Road Initiative [BRI] projects get off the ground. With Saga Italia on our team, we are able to provide a platform to consolidate our project logistics capabilities across the globe."

Marco Oriolo, owner and managing director of Saga Italia, added: “By joining Kerry Logistics our services are leveraged by an extensive network in Asia and Europe.”

Saga Italia’s range of services includes international freight forwarding services covering air, ocean and overland transportation.

According to Kerry Logistics, a rebranding process is under way. In the meantime the name Saga will be maintained.
