BBC Chartering has appointed Anastasios Karagiannis as chief chartering officer – dry bulk division.

Joining the company at the beginning of April, Karagiannis took over responsibility for the fleet of handysize bulkers within BBC Chartering, which currently stands at seven vessels with two more on order.

“When this segment of our business started to develop over the past few years, we realised that this shipping sector, which follows its own habits and procedures, is more volatile and needs a specialist with a grasp of the market,” said Ulrich Ulrichs, ceo of BBC Chartering.

Karagiannis added: “[The handysize business] is a very good complement to the multipurpose project cargo activities of the company and we will offer the same quality service to our bulk cargo clients with our modern handysize fleet.”

Accompanying Karagiannis’s appointment, BBC Chartering opened an office in Ballindamm, Hamburg – the 31st office in the company’s global network.
