Offshore Heavy Transport (OHT) has been selected as the preferred supplier for foundation installation at the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm.

Paul Cooley, SSE Renewables director of capital projects together with Torgeir Ramstad, ceo of OHT.

The wind farms are a joint venture between SSE Renewables and Equinor. They consist of the 1.2 GW Creyke Beck A and 1.2 GW Creyke Beck B project sites, located approximately 130 km off the northeast coast of the UK.

OHT’s installation crane vessel Alfa Lift, which will enter service in 2021, will be used for the transport and installation of monopile foundations and transition pieces for GE’s 12 MW Haliade-X wind turbines.

According to OHT, the ship is capable of handling 10 monopiles on the main deck and, during same voyage, 10 transition pieces on the forecastle deck.

The transport and installation of the monopiles and transition pieces is expected to be performed between 2022 and 2024.
