Civil engineering and general contracting firm Shimizu and Heerema Marine Contractors will team up to serve the offshore wind industry in Japan.

The cooperation is primarily focussed on the installation of wind turbine foundations, in which Heerema will support Shimizu with engineering and offshore construction expertise.

Jeroen van Oosten, business unit director wind for Heerema Marine Contractors, said: “We look forward to supporting Shimizu on its journey in the Japanese offshore wind market. We are happy and honoured to be working with a general contractor with a strong ambition to support the growth of offshore wind in Japan.”

Shimizu is currently building a self-elevating platform with a 2,500-tonne capacity crane for offshore wind construction, which is slated for delivery late 2022.
