February 4 - American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier Group (ARC) is to add a seventh ro-ro vessel to its US flagged fleet.

Aida is currently a Swedish flagged ro-ro vessel, but will be re-flagged and renamed in early 2016.

Owned by Wallenius Lines, Aida is 199 m long with a beam of 32.6 m and width of 14.15 m. The ship's stern opening is 7.04 m and its stern ramp is suitable for cargo weighing up to 240 tonnes.

ARC says that the vessel will be among the most capable and militarily useful vessels in the US flagged commercial fleet, able to carry tracked vehicles, helicopters and trucks, as well as other military and high and heavy project cargoes.

Aida will replace the vessel Courage in the Maritime Security Program (MSP) and will also be enrolled in the Voluntary Intermodal Sealift Agreement (VISA), said ARC.
