April 12 - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has unveiled the hull design for its new generation of car carrier, the Flexie, four of which are currently under construction at Minaminippon Shipbuilding.

MOL says that the rounded bow shape will minimise wind resistance and is expected to reduce C02 emissions by about 2 percent compared with today's car carriers.

In April last year, MOL signed a contract with Minaminippon Shipbuilding to construct four next-generation car carriers, which are scheduled for delivery in 2017 and 2018.

The car carriers will feature 14 decks instead of the current 12, while the number of liftable decks will also be increased from two to six, which MOL says offers greater flexibility and loading efficiency for vehicles and cargoes of different heights.
