BIFA to create virtual classrooms

From June 1, the British International Freight Association (BIFA) will take its industry training programme online using web-based video conferencing systems.

Robert Keen, director general at BIFA, explained that the training team has been modifying the course content over the past month so it can be delivered in a virtual classroom setting.

The programme will consist of 18 freight and Customs-related topics spread over nine modules, with more subjects to be added. The interactive training will feature live trainers with over 25 years of industry experience, and participants will receive workbooks.

Keen explained that this has been adopted in order to keep up BIFA’s success in training activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. He added: “Furloughed employees should be encouraged to consider BIFA’s online training opportunities,” since the government guidance allows furloughed employees to engage in training provided it does not generate revenue.

“One of the outcomes of the Covid-19 pandemic is that people have embraced web-based solutions due to remote working, so I feel that people will think twice about travelling for meetings and classroom training in the future,” said Carl Hobbis, BIFA training development manager.
