Dominion Energy’s chief executive Thomas Farrell said the utility is part of a consortium developing a Jones Act-compliant installation vessel for the USA's offshore wind energy sector.

Funding is currently being finalised and the vessel is expected to enter service in 2023. It will be capable of handling the next generation of large wind turbines with capacities in excess of 12 MW.

Dominion Energy plans to develop around 5.2 GW of offshore wind energy capacity by 2035. It is currently developing the 2.64 GW Virginia offshore wind project; Siemens Gamesa was named the preferred turbine supplier in January 2020 and installation work is scheduled for completion in 2026.
