3P Logistics (3PL) has coordinated the delivery of oversized cargoes for a mineral fertiliser plant in Sweden.

3PL coordinates complex delivery

The cargoes were shipped from China to the port Köpmanholmen to support the plant’s construction. When complete it will manufacture a sustainable mineral fertiliser from residual products from the electric battery manufacturing and pulp industries.

3PL group project director Niels Chr. V. Andersen and project manager Ilya Goncharov were responsible for the project, preparing, coordinating and handling the project through to final delivery.  The shipment included a crystalliser, two breakbulk items and seven out-of-gauge units, with diameters measuring up to 7.4 m.

When deciding upon the transport solution, Goncharov noted that sustainability was an important factor. To support those goals, the company selected the LNG-powered CMA CGM container vessel Concorde to ship the cargoes from China to Hamburg. Onboard the vessel, the crystalliser’s size equaled that of 24 standard containers.

In Hamburg, floating cranes were deployed to unload the cargoes and to a barge for delivery between the terminals. The units were then transloaded onto a breakbulk vessel for delivery in Sweden.

According to 3PL, further production plants of this type are planned in Örnsköldsvik and Skellefteå, as well as in other parts of the Nordic region and the USA.
